AB - The impact of pruning techniques on the plant growth, yield components and fruit quality
traits of substrate-grown highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum) cultivar 'Bluecrop'
were evaluated over four years (2019-2022). The orchard was planted in the village of Gruža
(Knić municipality, Serbia) in the spring of 2017 with 5-year-old nursery plants using 113 l
polypropylene pots spaced 0.8 m apart in a row and 3.0 m between rows (4,170 plants/ha). At
the onset of the trial the ‘Bluecrop’ plants were 8 years old. The two pruning techniques were
applied: i) conventional pruning (CP) - removal of the most unproductive canes at the center
of the canopy, and weak and excessively fruiting shoots from the top of bushes, and ii)
sectorial pruning (SP) - only removal of basal canes in ¼ of the canopy each year. The
average number of basal canes per bush was significantly lower in SP than in the CP
treatment (14.4 vs. 17.4 canes bush-1
, respectively). SP plants had thinner canes than CP
plants, which increased over the years of the study and reached a maximum diameter of 11.12
mm in 2022. CP had a positive influence on fruit yield (5.98 kg bush-1
), which was associated
with a 20% higher number of fruits per bush than in sectorial pruned plants. The fruit yield
increased in the first three years of the study, reaching a maximum value in 2021 (7.57 kg per
bush), whereas an opposite trend was observed in average fruit weight over the years, with the
lowest value reached in the last harvest year (1.81 g). Fruit weight and soluble solids content
were not affected by the pruning method, while the content of total acids, total anthocyanins
and total phenolics were significantly higher in fruit harvested from the SP treatment (0.70%,
37.04 mg eq mvd-3-G /100 g FW and 1.18 mg eq GA/g FW, respectively) along with the total
antioxidant capacity (8.39 mg eq AsA /g FW).

AB - Monocots and dicots differ in their boron (B) requirement, but also in their capacity to accumulate silicon (Si). Although an ameliorative effect of Si on B toxicity has been reported in various crops, differences among monocots and dicots are not clear, in particular in light of their ability to retain B in the leaf apoplast. In hydroponic experiments under controlled conditions, we studied the role of Si in the compartmentation of B within the leaves of wheat (Triticum vulgare L.) as a model of a high-Si monocot and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) as a model of a low-Si dicot, with the focus on the leaf apoplast. The stable isotopes 10B and 11B were used to investigate the dynamics of cell wall B binding capacity. In both crops, the application of Si did not affect B concentration in the root, but significantly decreased the B concentration in the leaves. However, the application of Si differently influenced the binding capacity of the leaf apoplast for excess B in wheat and sunflower. In wheat, whose capacity to retain B in the leaf cell walls is lower than in sunflower, the continuous supply of Si is crucial for an enhancement of high B tolerance in the shoot. On the other hand, the supply of Si did not contribute significantly in the extension of the B binding sites in sunflower leaves.

AB - Pikeperch of age classes 3+ and 4+ were collected from the Garaši reservoir (Serbia) to analyze their bioindicator potential and compare their possible differences. Concentrations of 26 elements were determined in gills, muscles, and liver by inductively-coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and of 17 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), and six polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in muscle by gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection (GC-MS). Histopathological changes in the liver and gills were analyzed as biomarkers of general fish health. Only the concentrations of Cd, Na, and P in the muscles differed significantly. The OCPs and PCBs concentrations were below the detection limits, so fish meat consumption does not pose a risk concerning these substances. Hg and Cd exceeded the maximum allowed concentrations in some 4+ individuals, probably due to biomagnification. Gills were the most affected by metal exposure in both age classes. Histopathological changes and indices were minor and did not differ significantly between age classes, suggesting that pollution did not affect the morphology and structure of gills and liver. There were no significant correlations between elemental accumulation and fish condition or between histopathological scores. Therefore, both age classes can be used as bioindicators of pollution.

AB - In this study a battery of bioassays, both in vivo (metals and metalloids concentrations, erythrocyte morphometry, comet assay, micronucleus assay, and histopathological analyses) on vimba bream Vimba vimba (L., 1758) and white bream Blicca bjoerkna (L., 1758), and in vitro (treatment of HepG2 cells with native water samples) was applied to assess the harmful potential of untreated wastewater. Faecal indicator bacteria were quantified to assess the microbiological water quality. Vimba bream had significantly higher Fe concentrations in both liver and muscle, while white bream had higher Ca and Cu concentrations in liver. Vimba bream had a significantly higher level of DNA damage in both liver and blood cells, in comparison to white bream. Low levels of micronucleus and nuclear abnormalities were observed in both species. Erythrocytes morphometry did not show significant interspecific differences. Histopathological analyses revealed a similar response of the studied species, with a significantly higher presence of ceroid pigments in the liver of vimba bream. Treatment of HepG2 cells revealed the high genotoxic potential of water downstream of the discharge point. The results of this study clearly demonstrate the importance of effect-based monitoring, in order to enforce more efficient management of natural resources and implementation of wastewater treatment systems.

AB - (1) The nutritional quality of strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch) fruits, among others, is largely maintained by the presence of soluble sugars and organic acids. As the primary products of photosynthesis, they are energy depots in plants, necessary for the construction of cell constituents, but also serve as precursors of aromatic compounds and signaling molecules. (2) In this study, fruits of 25 strawberry cultivars were qualitatively and quantitatively characterized concerning individual sugars and organic acids by HPLC, FT-ICR-MS, and MS imaging analysis. In addition, the total quality index (TQI), as a novel mathematical model, was used to compare all individual parameters evaluated to obtain a quantitative single score, as an indicator of overall fruit quality. (3) Regardless of a large number of cultivars and monitored parameters that were studded, several cultivars stood out in terms of selected primary metabolites, such as ‘Rumba’, ‘Jeny’, and ‘Sandra’, while the latter had the best TQI score. (4) Intercultivar variations in sugars and organic acids profiles, along with other bioactive compounds, should be considered for selection of promising cultivars with improved naturally occurring nutraceutical traits. Besides the search for a pleasant taste, increased awareness of healthy nutrition resulted in heightening consumer demand for high-quality fruit.

AB - The aim of this study was to compare newly introduced mid- and late-ripening strawberry
cultivars ('Arianna', 'Tea' and 'Federica') with the commercially important cultivar 'Joly' to identify
the best-performing ones for extended market supply. A field study was carried out in a
strawberry plantation situated in the municipality of Šid (Serbia), in the period of 2021–2022. The
orchard was planted in July 2020 in double rows on beds covered with black polyethylene foil.
Cultivars were evaluated for their flowering and ripening time, yield components, and plant
growth, as well as for biometrical fruit traits (fruit weight, index of fruit shape) and nutritional
value (the content of soluble solids - SSC, total acids - TA, vitamin C, total anthocyanins –TACY,
total phenolics - TPC and total antioxidant capacity - TAC). This research revealed that the earliest
average beginning of ripeness was recorded in cultivar 'Arianna' (May 19), while the latest was in
cultivar 'Federica' (May 29). The number of branch crowns and leaves per plant was significantly
lower in cultivars 'Tea' and 'Federica' compared to the cultivar 'Joly', whereas no significant
differences in plant height were observed among the tested cultivars. 'Tea' was superior in terms
of highest productivity (947 g/plant and 4.17 kg/m2
), followed by the cultivar ‘Joly’ (865 g/plant
and 3.81 kg/m2). Contrary to this, the lower yield was found in the two other tested cultivars
'Federica' (698 g/plant and 3.07 kg/m2) and 'Arianna' (773 g/plant and 3.40 kg/m2). The most
productive cultivar 'Tea' had the largest fruit weight (29.7 g) and it was also characterized by the
lowest content of TA, TACY, and TPC (0.56%, 18.5 mg PG-3-G eq 100 g-1 FW and 0.72 mg GA eq/g FW, respectively). Significantly higher amounts of soluble solids were found in all newly
introduced cultivars in comparison to the standard cultivar 'Joly' (9.15%). The differences in TAC
levels between 2021 and 2022 were significant showing higher values in the second year of trial with the dominance of cultivar 'Arianna' (1.24 mg AsA eq g-1 FW).

AB - Insulin resistance is a state where a normal amount of insulin can’t provoke an appropriate metabolic response. Insulin promotes membrane trafficking of the glucose transporter GLUT4 from the storage vesicles to the plasma membrane in white adipose tissue. Adipocytes use glucose for lipogenesis and store the energy as lipid droplets. If adipocytes are unable to uptake glucose, a chronic state of hyperglycemia is developed, with severe health consequences. Polyphenols are natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents. Food rich in polyphenols has been suggested to exert an ameliorative effect on restoring insulin sensitivity, with the main identified target being AMPK1,2, one of the key sensors of intracellular energy. Here, we tested the effect of methanol extracts from three newly introduced strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa, Duch.) cultivars – 'Aprika', 'Sandra' and 'Quicky' on glucose metabolism in 3T3-F442A adipocytes. It was determined that 'Aprika' has the highest total phenolic content, relative to the other two cultivars. After 72-h exposure, none of the strawberry cultivars affected adipocyte cell growth significantly. Protein expression analysis of the differentiated adipocytes suggested 'Aprika', but not the other two cultivars, significantly increased the AMPK expression, as well as GLUT4, thus increasing glucose uptake. Strawberry extracts did not significantly affect the differentiation of adipocytes (SIRT1 and PPARγ), nor the fatty acid synthesis (ACC). Conclusively, the 'Aprika' methanol extract with high phenolic content exerts an ameliorative effect on glucose uptake, presumably through activation of the AMPK-dependent mechanism of GLUT4 trafficking. The systemic effects of the ‘Aprika’ cultivar should be further investigated. Implications of the research are decreased hyperglycemia in obese and diabetic patients, by the introduction of the 'Aprika' strawberry cultivar into everyday diet. References 1. AB - Varroa destructor is a parasitic mite responsible for the loss of honey bee (Apis mellifera)
colonies. This study aimed to find a promising marker in honey for the bee colony infestation level
using fluorescence spectroscopy and biochemical analyses. We examined whether the parameters of
the honey samples’ fluorescence spectra and biochemical parameters, both related to proteins and
phenolics, may be connected with the level of honey bee colonies’ infestation. The infestation level
was highly positively correlated with the catalase activity in honey (r = 0.936). Additionally, the
infestation level was positively correlated with the phenolic spectral component (r = 0.656), which
was tentatively related to the phenolics in honey. No correlation was found between the diastase
activity in honey and the colonies’ infestation level. The results indicate that the catalase activity in
honey and the PFC1 spectral component may be reliable markers for the V. destructor infestation level
of the colonies. The obtained data may be related to the honey yield obtained from the apiaries.

AB - Veliki ekonomski značaj u gajenju brojnih biljnih vrsta, a posebno korenasto-krtolastih, imaju bakterije iz rodova Pectobacterium i Dickeya, prvobitno opisane kao rod Erwinia. Ove bakterije prouzrokuju bolest tzv. vlažnu trulež. Štete nastaju usled propadanja zaraženih plodova, krtola i mesnatog korena.

AB - Bakteriozna mrljavost plodova lubenice (Acidovorax citrulli) predstavlja širom sveta ozbiljnu pretnju uključujući uzgajivače i proizvođače semena i rasada gajenih vrsta biljaka iz porodice Cucurbitacae. U cilju boljeg razumevanja genetičke strukture populacija A. citrulli prisutnih u Srbiji, u ovom radu je korišćena analiza sekvenci više genskih lokusa (MLSA) primenom konzerviranih gena i gena virulentnosti.

AB - The present study provides a new insight into the existing Xanthomonas arboricola pv. pruni (Xap) bacterial population originating from peach and apricot in two Western Balkans countries (Serbia and Montenegro). Multilocus sequence typing and analysis of the sequences of nine housekeeping genes revealed homology between the tested Xap strains as well as with the European population of this bacterium. The tested strains share the same haplotype (Haplotype I) with the Xap strains from Italy, France, Spain, United States, Australia and Brazil. The revealed single nucleotide change (G ↔ C) in the sequences of the gyrB1 gene differentiates Haplotype I from Haplotype II (Xap from South Korea, New Zealand, Argentina and Uruguay). The detached-leaf bioassay results confirmed differences in virulence between strains originating from peach and apricot towards Prunus armeniaca (apricot), indicating host specialization of the apricot strain towards this host. For the first time, immunity of P. fruticosa (European ground cherry) to Xap was established. According to the AUDPC, PCA and cluster analysis, other Prunus spp. were classified as having low susceptibility (P. mahaleb, P. cerasus and P. avium), as susceptible (P. domestica) and as highly susceptible (P. persica, P. dulcis, P. cerasifera and P. spinosa). Xap strains were also found to be susceptible to 10 tested antibiotics. This study provides valuable knowledge on the Xap population from stone fruit grown in the Western Balkans region as well as the source of immunity, which could serve as a starting point for breeding Prunus cultivars and could be used as the main control strategy.

AB - In this study, we report the influence of vanadium oxide (VO), as a photosensitive component, on the photoactivity of TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs). A series of TNTs of varying tube diameter were synthesized by the anodization of titanium foils at different voltages, while vanadium oxide was deposited on TNTs by wet chemical deposition. An improvement in the optical properties of nanotubes was observed after the deposition of vanadium oxide. An improvement in the optical properties (redshift in UV-Vis spectra) of TNTs and TNT/VO was noted. The photocatalytic activity was improved with increasing tube diameter, while it was weakened after the deposition of VO. Furthermore, photoactivity was investigated in photodiodes based on TNTs or TNT/VO and single crystals of CH3NH3PbI3. The photoelectric measurement revealed that different TNT diameters did not influence the I-V characteristic of the photodiodes, while the deposition of VO improved the photocurrent for smaller TNTs

AB - To investigate the effect of synthesis procedure and sintering temperature on the functional properties of perovskite/spinel ceramics, BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 composites were prepared by thermal decomposition, coprecipitation, and microemulsion method, and sintered at 1150°C and 1300°C. The phase composition and morphology of as-prepared powders as well as sintered ceramics were thoroughly examined by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The dielectric and ferroelectric measurements were performed in detail. Generally, the samples sintered at 1300°C had better performances than those sintered at 1150°C. The composite synthesized by thermal decomposition and sintered at 1300 °C stands out among other prepared BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 ceramics, owing to high stability in the wide frequency range and low leakage currents. The obtained results indicate that such composite might be successfully applied as a functional multiferroic.

X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used for the detailed examination of phase composition and morphology. The magnetic, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties were investigated. The optimal phase composition in the BaTiO3/NiFe2O4 composite, sintered at 1150 °C, resulted in a wide frequency range stability. Additionally, particular phase composition indicates favorable properties such as low conductivity and ideal-like hysteresis loop behavior. The favorable properties of BaTiO3/NiFe2O4 make this particular composite an ideal material choice for further studies on applications of multi-ferroic devices.

AB - Salata (Lactuca sativa L.) je jednogodišnja biljka, sa umerenimzahtevima prema faktorima spoljašnje sredine, kratkim vegetacionimperiodom i mogućnošću gajenja tokom cele godine. Ogledi sa šestgenotipova salate (‘Kiribati’, ‘Murai’, ‘Aquino’, ‘Gaugin’, ‘Aleppo’,‘Carmesi’) bili su postavljeni u kompaniji Iceberg Salat Centar. Biljke sugajene u plasteniku, bez dodatnog grejanja, tokom tri uzastopne sezone(jesen, zima i proleće), primenom mikrobioloških đubriva (EM Aktiv,Vital Tricho i njihova kombinacija). Najveću vrednost ukupnorastvorljivih materija i organskih kiselina ostvarila je crvena sorta ‘Murai‘u zimskom ogledu primenom đubriva Vital Tricho i EM Aktiv redom.

AB - The plant cell wall (CW) is a cell compartment lying outside the plasma
membrane forming a continuum throughout the plant body. The composition of
CWs varies between plant species and cell types, while changes in CW constituents
occur as a result of growth and developmental processes, or as a response to various
environmental stimuli. In the herein study, we present a selection of microscopic
methods for rapid, relatively simple, and low-cost visualization of CW
structure/composition in tissues of stems in trees, shrubs, or herbs. Selected
microscopic methods imply the use of unfixed, intact, both fresh and dried, plant
tissues for the analysis, as well as free-hand or microtome sectioning. UV
microscopy, phloroglucinol-HCl and toluidine blue O staining, SEM microscopy,
and RAMAN microspectroscopy, separately or in combination, can provide valuable
information in plant ecology, plant physiology studies, or for applications in
agronomy and forest products industry. As a model, stem samples of juvenile
Populus x euramericana trees exposed to severe long term static bending were
selected: tension wood fibers (gelatinous fibers, specialized sclerenchyma cells)
could be considered as representatives of CWs with the most complex structure,
while the genus Populus is considered as a model woody Angiosperm.

AB - The most popular cultivated strawberry is the dessert strawberry (Fragaria×ananassa Duch.)
from which breeders have created an abundance of new improved cultivars with specific agronomic, qualitative and sensorial characteristics. In this study, two newly introduced strawberry
cultivars ‘Joly’ and ‘Sibilla’ were compared with their mutual parent and commercial cultivar ‘Clery’
in terms of individual phenolics, sugars, and organic acids content. All forms of free pelargonidin
were significantly higher in ‘Joly’ and ‘Sibilla’ (17.6 and 11.3 µg/g FW, respectively) compared to
‘Clery’ (3.4 µg/g FW), in which cyanidin 3-glucoside is the dominant (6.2 µg/g FW). Quercetin
3-O-glucuronide values were higher in ‘Sibilla’ and ‘Joly’ (17.4 and 11.6 µg/g FW, respectively) than
in ‘Clery’ (2.6 µg/g FW). The highest values of p-coumaric acid were detected in ‘Sibilla’ (6.2 µg/g
FW). Fructose content (3.1 g/100g FW) was the highest in ‘Joly’, sucrose content (0.8 g/100g FW)
in ‘Sibilla’, while glucose content was similar in all three cultivars. The highest value of fumaric and
citric acid (13.1 µg/g and 6.2 mg/g FW, respectively) was detected in ‘Sibilla’, while malic and shikimic acid had similar values in all three cultivars. Two newer strawberry cultivars ‘Joly’ and ‘Sibilla’ generally had higher levels of analyzed bioactive compounds compared to their common parent ‘Clery’. Given that sensorial and nutritional quality of strawberry fruit is significantly affected by the ratio of sugars and organic acids, as well as their combination with phenolic compounds, the established better fruit quality of newer cultivars indicated their significant potential for commercial
cultivation.

AB - Strawberries are rich in various health-promoting compounds. A particularly high yield of these
molecules could be extracted using methanol which is unfortunately harmful to living beings. To
surpass the problem of solvent toxicity, in this paper, we have incorporated methanol extracts of
two novel strawberry cultivars into liposomes. Our results show that both extracts possess
significant antiradical activity towards hydroxyl and DPPH radicals, unaltered by lipids from
liposome membranes. These results indicate that otherwise toxic extracts could easily be turned into a promising pharmaceutical product.

AB - Phenolic compounds of 25 newly introduced strawberry cultivars were profiled using spectrophotometry, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, and high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Total phenolic and anthocyanin content (TPC and TACY, respectively), as well as vitamin C, and concentrations of individual phenolic compounds in fruits were evaluated to identify the most promising cultivars according to their phenolic profile. The highest values of TPC, TACY, and vitamin C were recorded in ´Premy´ (1.53 mg eq GA g-1 FW), ´Sandra´ (30.60 mg eq Pg-3-g 100 g-1 FW) and ´Laetitia´ (56.32 mg 100 g-1 FW), respectively. The DPPH and •OH radicals scavenging activity of fruit methanolic extracts was estimated using EPR spectroscopy. All cultivars are almost uniformly effective in the scavenging of •OH radical, while ´Tea´, ´Premy´, and ´Joly´ were marked as highly potent cultivars (over 70%) in terms of DPPH-antiradical activity. Specific peroxidase activities were the highest in ´Garda´, ´Federica´, and ´Rumba´ (0.11, 0.08, and 0.06 U mg-1 prot, respectively). ´Laetitia´, ´Joly´, ´Arianna´, ´Tea´, and ´Mila´ cultivars were distinguished from others as the richest concerning almost all flavonoids and phenolic acids, including some other parameters of bioactivity. These cultivars could be recommended to consumers in terms of fruit as a functional food.

AB - The influences of two storage conditions (regular atmosphere-RA and modified-atmosphere packaging-MAP) and
different storage time on fruit textural parameters, chemical composition, and total quality index (TQI) of two
blueberry cultivars were investigated. Freshly harvested fruit of mid and late season cultivars (‘Bluecrop’ and
‘Liberty’, respectively) were placed in plastic punnets, packed into low-density polyethylene bags of 25 μm
thickness with two perforations of 3 mm and stored at 2 ◦C and 90% relative humidity for 30 days, either in RA
or in MAP. Changes in gas composition inside the package and fruit quality characteristics were analyzed at 10-
day intervals during storage: 0, 10, 20, and 30 days. ‘Liberty’ was dominant over ‘Bluecrop’ in terms of hardness
(428 g and 296 g, respectively), as well as individual and total sugars (100 and 76 g⋅kg–1, respectively), organic
acids (19 and 12 g⋅kg–1, respectively) and most subclasses of phenolic compounds (anthocyanins, flavonols, and
hydroxycinnamic acids). In addition, a novel mathematical index of TQI was introduced to compare all evaluated
parameters in order to obtain a quantitative single score, as an indicator of overall fruit quality. ‘Liberty’ had the
better TQI score in RA, whereas ‘Bluecrop’ behaved better in MAP. Accordingly, for longer storage of blueberry
fruit MAP should not be assumed to be uniformly helpful, since the effect of storage duration in the specific type
of atmosphere substantially depends on the proper cultivar selection.

AB - Fitopatogena bakterija Acidovorax citrulli, prouzrokovač bakteriozne mrljavosti
plodova lubenice prvi put je detektovana u Srbiji 2014. godine u Bačkoj i Sremu. Zbog
i dalje javljaju. Stoga, cilj ovog rada je praćenje, izolacija i identifikacija A. citrulli na plodovima
lubenice sa simptomima bakteriozne mrljavosti u dvogodišnjem periodu (2021-2022.
godina).
simptomi bakteriozne mrljavosti lubenice.
dobijeni 2014. (lokalitet Čelarevo) i 2018. (lokalitet Šabac). Patogenost je dokazana na
plodovima lubenice, pojavom tamno-zelenih, vlažnih pega 3-5 dana nakon injektiranja
bakterijske suspenzije u mezokarp.
heterogenost, odnosno izdvajanje izolata dobijenih takom 2021. (I grupa) i 2022. (II grupa)
potencijalni diverzitet novih izolata A. citrulli, i eventualno putevi introdukcije i širenja ovog
patogena u Srbiji.

AB - Atmospheric pollution remains one of the growing concerns in the twenty-first century, with particular focus on metal trace elements (MTE) from anthropogenic sources, due to their adverse effects on biota. The concentration and type of MTE in the atmosphere and in the soil are diverse, depending on the origin of pollutants, which can cause diverse detrimental effects on organisms living in the nearby environment. Three sites in Central Serbia with different origins of MTE pollution (urban contamination, smelting, and fly ash area) were assessed, using terrestrial Roman snails (Helix pomatia) as biomarker organisms. These snails are sentinel organisms and are known for their capacities for accumulation of MTE. Snails were sampled and their body was divided in three parts: viscera, foot, and shell and concentrations of MTE were determined in each of these body parts using inductively coupled plasma optical spectrometry. Results showed contrasting MTE accumulation patterns in body parts of the snails. Of three studied sites, snails sampled in the vicinity of fly ash containment had lower concentrations of MTE compared to other two polluted sites.

AB - This study illustrates the differences in yield components, morphometric and nutritional fruit properties of the strawberry cultivar 'Clery' affected by planting density in a soilless growing system. Cold stored frigo plants were planted at the beginning of August 2018 in bags filled with 20 L substrate mixture which were placed within styrofoam containers on a 1.2 m high tabletop. The effect of two planting densities, 10 and 14 plants m(-2), on mentioned parameters was monitored during 2019 in a greenhouse from the 'Euro Fruit' company in Kupinovo, Serbia. Results showed that the harvest window was similar in both applied planting densities and it lasted around one month (from April 20 to May 20, 2019). Contrary to this, a significantly higher number of fruits plant(-1), yield plant(-1) and average fruit weight was registered in the density of 10 plants m(-2) (27.8; 545.4 g plant(-1); 20.0 g, respectively). Higher planting density of 14 plants m(-2) significantly increased concentrations of glucose, citric, malic and shikimic acids in the fruit (20.3 g kg(-1); 5.41 mg g(-1); 2.23 mg g(-1) and 20.13 mu g g(-1), respectively). Soluble solids, fructose and vitamin C content in fruit were not affected by the planting density. These results indicate that the use of a planting density of 10 plants m(-2) could be considered more suitable in a soilless production system of 'Clery' with optimal yields plant(-1) and m(-2) despite positive effects on some morphometric and chemical fruit traits at the density of 14 plants m(-2).
