Village Mace is located in the south-west of Serbia. Rich in stone, it used to be well known by its craftsmen, who traditionally covered log houses with stone extracted from nearby mines. Since the new life style imposed the transit to the burned clay roof covers in the middle of 20th century and the emigration of the young population to the cities, today this stone craft is disregarded and threaten to be forgotten. The paper considers the case of village Mace regarding three pillars of sustainable development. Using the value maps, the authors evaluate several parameters in each of the fields-economy, environment and society. In order to research the necessity for the revival of the local stone craft, the goal of the paper is to assess and compare the present state of the community Mace with the case when the stone craft was thriving.en
