dc.description.abstractWe demonstrate unusual kinds of discrete vortex beams, elliptical necklaces, realized by Mathieu photonic lattices. Varying the order of the Mathieu lattices and their ellipticity, we can control the shape and size of such necklaces. Besides stable vortex states, we observe oscillatory dipole states or dynamical instabilities and study their orbital angular momentum. Dynamical instabilities occur for higher beam power and higher-order vortices. Also the decay of higher-order phase singularities and their separation is observed in dependence on the ellipticity.sr
