dc.description.abstractCobaltcomplexeswithsemi-andthiosemicarbazonesof8-quinolinecarboxaldehydehavebeensynthesizedandcharacterizedbyX-raydiffractionanalysis.Thesenovelcomplexesandapreviouslysynthesized cobaltcomplexwithaselenium-basedselenosemicarbazoneligandshowedmyeloiddifferentiationactivity onalltransretinoicacidresistantHL-60acutemyeloidleukaemiacells.Theyalsoshowedvaryinglevelsof cytotoxicityonfivehumantumorcelllines:cervixcarcinomacells(HeLa),lungadenocarcinomacells (A549),colorectaladenocarcinomacells(LS-174),breastcarcinomacells(MDA-MB-361),andchronicmyeloidleukaemia(K562)aswellasonenormalhumancellline:fetallungfibroblastcells(MRC-5).Leukaemia differentiationwasmoststronglyinducedbyametal-freeoxygenligandandtheseleniumligand,whilst thelatterandthecobaltIJII)complexwithanoxygenligandshowedthestrongestdose-dependentcytotoxic activity.Infouroutoffiveinvestigatedtumorcelllines,itwasofthesameorderofmagnitudeascisplatin. Thesebestcompounds,however,hadlowertoxicityonnon-transformedMRC-5cellsthancisplatin.sr
