AB - The devolatilization process is the initial step in the coal combustion. Devolatilization research
was performed on a wire-mesh reactor in inert gas, at the atmospheric pressure. Two different
sets of feed coal samples of various particle diameters (0.50<х<1.00 mm; 0.25<x<0.50 mm;
0.1<x<0.25 mm; x<0.1 mm) from the Kolubara and Kostolac mines were used for research.
Lignite samples were spread in a thin layer a few particles thick, over electrically heated
stainless steel wire mesh and rapidly heated at four different temperature stages (300oC, 500oC,
700oC, 900oC). Maceral analysis and rank deternination were performed on 32 combustion
residues and 8 lignite samples following the classification developed by ICCP for lignite,
bituminous coal and coal chars.

AB - Due to the inability of conventional wastewater treatment procedures to remove organic
pharmaceutical pollutants, active pharmaceutical components remain in wastewater and even reach
tap water. In terms of pharmaceutical pollutants, the scientific community focuses on -blockers due
to their extensive (over)usage and moderately high solubility. In this study, the photocatalytic activity
of V2O5 was investigated through the degradation of nadolol (NAD), pindolol (PIN), metoprolol
(MET), and their mixture under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation in water. For the preparation of V2O5,
facile hydrothermal synthesis was used. The structural, morphological, and surface properties
and purity of synthesized V2O5 powder were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM),
X-ray, and Raman spectroscopy. SEM micrographs showed hexagonal-shaped platelets with welldefined
morphology of materials with diameters in the range of 10–65 μm and thickness of around
a few microns. X-ray diffraction identified only one crystalline phase in the sample. The Raman
scattering measurements taken on the catalyst confirmed the result of XRPD. Degradation kinetics
were monitored by ultra-fast liquid chromatography with diode array detection. The results showed
that in individual solutions, photocatalytic degradation of MET and NAD was relatively insignificant
(<10%). However, in the PIN case, the degradation was significant (64%). In the mixture, the
photodegradation efficiency of MET and NAD slightly increased (15% and 13%). Conversely, it
reduced the PIN to the still satisfactory value of 40%. Computational analysis based on molecular and
periodic density functional theory calculations was used to complement our experimental findings.
Calculations of the average local ionization energy indicate that the PIN is the most reactive of all
three considered molecules in terms of removing an electron from it.

AB - To investigate the effect of synthesis procedure and sintering temperature on the functional properties of perovskite/spinel ceramics, BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 composites were prepared by thermal decomposition, coprecipitation, and microemulsion method, and sintered at 1150°C and 1300°C. The phase composition and morphology of as-prepared powders as well as sintered ceramics were thoroughly examined by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The dielectric and ferroelectric measurements were performed in detail. Generally, the samples sintered at 1300°C had better performances than those sintered at 1150°C. The composite synthesized by thermal decomposition and sintered at 1300 °C stands out among other prepared BaTiO3/CoFe2O4 ceramics, owing to high stability in the wide frequency range and low leakage currents. The obtained results indicate that such composite might be successfully applied as a functional multiferroic.

AB - To investigate the influence of spinel structure and sintering temperature on the functional properties of BaTiO3/NixZn1−xFe2O4 (x = 0, 0.5, 1), NiFe2O4, ZnFe2O4, and Ni0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 were in situ prepared by thermal decomposition onto BaTiO3 surface from acetylacetonate precursors. As-prepared powders were additionally sintered at 1150 °C and 1300 °C. X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used for the detailed examination of phase composition and morphology. The magnetic, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties were investigated. The optimal phase composition in the BaTiO3/NiFe2O4 composite, sintered at 1150 °C, resulted in a wide frequency range stability. Additionally, particular phase composition indicates favorable properties such as low conductivity and ideal-like hysteresis loop behavior. The favorable properties of BaTiO3/NiFe2O4 make this particular composite an ideal material choice for further studies on applications of multi-ferroic devices.

AB - In recent years, thermal decomposition studies of transition metal complexes with benzenepolycarboxylate ligands have become an area of a great importance due to the possibility of obtaining useful metal oxides with desirable electrical, magnetic and catalytic properties [1]. As a
contrast to conventional methods for the preparation of metal oxides, such as hydrothermal or sol–
gel treatment, thermolysis is faster, more efficient and environmentally friendly. Mn(II)–dipya
(dipya = 2,2’-dipyridylamine) complex with tetraanion of 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic
(pyromellitic, H4pyr) acid, [Mn2(dipya)2(pyr)(H2O)2], has been prepared and characterized by
elemental, spectral and microscopy analyses. Direct thermolysis of the complex up to 1200 °C in an air atmosphere yielded spinel Mn3O4 oxide material. The obtained Mn3O4 has been characterized for its structural, spectroscopic, morphological and optical properties. The possibilities of using this oxide as photocatalyst or co-photocatalyst for removing textile organic dyes, as well as inorganic pigmentary material, were also investigated and discussed.
