AB  - In this paper, influence of different substrates' thickness on coplanar waveguide (CPW) inductors for high frequency applications is presented. The designed CPW inductors are two-port meanders with one turn and outer dimension 1.8 mm x 2.0 mm. CPW inductors were made in inkjet printing technology with nanoparticle ink which contain 20 wt% of silver. CPW inductors are fabricated on substrates with 25, 50, 75 and 125 m thicknesses. The measured response characteristics are in excellent agreement with the predicted simulation response. The best values of inductance and Q-factor were obtained with 125 mu m thickness of substrate (L=2.269 nH and Q congruent to 5).

AB  - In this paper, we present the modeling, fabrication, measurement techniques, and characterization results of multilayer miniature coplanar waveguide (CPW) meander-type inductors for high-frequency applications. Detailed procedure of the fabrication process based on using ink-jet printing technology is given. Silver nanoparticle ink that contains 20 wt% of silver was printed on a flexible polyimide foil 50 mu m thick in one, two, and three layers. It is shown that multilayer CPW inductors have improved performance. Almost two times better Q-factor value was achieved. This is an encouraging result for multilayer printing in ink-jet technology.

AB  - This paper describes the design and fabrication of low-cost coplanar waveguide (CPW) miniature meander inductors. Inductors are fabricated on a flexible plastic polyimide foil in ink-jet printed technology with silver nanoparticle ink in a single layer. For the first time, the detailed characterization and simulation of CPW inductors in this technology is reported. The inductors are developed with impressive measured self-resonance frequency up to 18.6 GHz. The 2.107-nH inductor measures only 1 mm x 1.7 mm x 0.075 mm and demonstrates a high level of miniaturization in ink-jet printing technology. The measured response characteristics are in excellent agreement with the predicted simulation response.

AB  - U ovom radu je predstavljen koplanarni induktor u fleksibilnoj tehnologiji dobijen postupkom ink-jet štampanja. Prikazani su projektovanje, simulacija, proizvodnja, merenja i karakterizacija ovih struktura. Ova tehnologija predstavlja rešenje za veoma jeftinu masovnu proizvodnju. Koplanarni induktori, koji su razvijeni za fleksibilnu štampanu elektroniku, su dobijeni na polimernoj podlozi sa provodnim slojem od nanočestičnog srebra.

AB  - Purpose - Significant achievements in ferrite material processing enable developments of many ferrite devices with a wide range of power levels and working frequencies, which make demands for new characterization and modelling methods for ferrite materials and components. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a modelling and measurement procedure, which can be used for the characterization of two-port ferrite components in high frequency range. Design/methodology/approach - This paper presents a commercially available ferrite component (transformer) modelling and determination of its electrical parameters using in-house developed software. The components are measured and characterized using a vector network analyzer E5071B and adaptation test fixture on PCB board. The parameters of electrical equivalent circuit of the ferrite transformer parameters are compared with values extracted out of measured scattering parameters. Findings - A good agreement between modelled and extracted electrical parameters of the ferrite transformer is found. The modelled inductance curves have the same dependence versus frequency as extracted ones. That confirms the model validity in the wide frequency range. Originality/value - In-house developed software based on proposed model provides inclusion of the ferrite material dispersive characteristics, which dominantly determines high-frequency behaviour of two-port ferrite components. Developed software enables fast and accurate calculation of the ferrite transformer electrical parameters and its redesign in order to achieve the best performance for required application.

Parameter extraction of ferrite transformers using S-parameters

AB  - A characterization of ferrite transformers based on S-parameters measurement using vector network analyzer and specially developed PCB test fixture is presented. Ferrite transformers are realized with commercially available ferrite component. In addition, in order to verify the measurement procedure, we have tested the same component using impedance analyzer, and compared the results with VNA measurement procedure. It is shown that proposed approach is efficient in predicting and analyzing the transformer performance, even in high frequency range.

abstract = "A characterization of ferrite transformers based on S-parameters measurement using vector network analyzer and specially developed PCB test fixture is presented. Ferrite transformers are realized with commercially available ferrite component. In addition, in order to verify the measurement procedure, we have tested the same component using impedance analyzer, and compared the results with VNA measurement procedure. It is shown that proposed approach is efficient in predicting and analyzing the transformer performance, even in high frequency range.",

Characterization of ferrite surface mount bead using S-parameters

AB  - In this paper, characterization of ferrite surface mount bead based on S-parameters measurement, using vector network analyzer E5071B and specially developed PCB test fixture, are presented. The validation of characterization method was performed using commercially available ferrite component, the surface mount 4-way bead. It is shown that proposed approach is efficient in predicting and analyzing the ferrite bead performance, not only in standard frequency range bellow 100 MHz, but also in high frequency range up to 1GHz.
