AB - A survey was conducted on Elateridae fauna of Srem region, in the south of Vojvodina Province (Serbia) during 2010-2012. As many as 1202 specimens (666 adults and 536 larval forms) were collected from 949 ha on four localities and different types of habitats (crops and open biotops). Totally, 37 species belonging to 15 genera were identified. The most frequently present genus was Agroites, with the species A. ustulaus.

AB - Ethanol solutions of five fractions obtained from essential oil of sweet basil Ocimum basilicum L. (Lamiales: Lamiaceae) (F1-F5) were tested for their antifeedant properties against 2nd instar gypsy moth larvae, Lymantria dispar L. (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae), in laboratory non-choice and feeding-choice experiments. Prior to bioassays, the chemical composition of each fraction was determined by gas chromatography analyses. Significant larval deterrence from feeding was achieved by application of tested solutions to fresh leaves of the host plant. The most effective were F1 (0.5%), F4 (0.05, 0.1, and 0.5%), and F5 (0.1 and 0.5%), which provided an antifeedant index > 80% after five days. A low rate of larval mortality was observed in no-choice bioassay. In situ screening of chlorophyll fluorescence as an indicator of plant stress level (assessed by the induced fluorometry) confirmed that the tested compounds did not cause alternations in the photosynthetic efficiency of treated leaves.

AB - Nanopowdered solid solution Ce(1-x)Fe(x)O(2-delta) samples (0 lt = x lt = 0.1) were synthesized by a self-propagating room temperature synthesis (SPRT). XRD and Raman spectroscopy at room temperature were used to study the vibrational properties of these materials as well as the Fe solubility in ceria lattice. Results show that all obtained powders are solid solutions with a fluorite-type crystal structure and all powders were nanometric in size. The average size of Ce(1-x)Fe(x)O(2-delta) particles lies about 5 nm. The results of electrical properties of the sintered samples investigated by an ac impedance spectroscopy are also presented and discussed. It was confirmed that Fe(3+) doped ceria material has a potential as electrolyte for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cell applications.

AB - Commercial zinc oxide powder was mechanically treated by grinding in a high-energy vibro-mill in a continual regime in air up to 300 minutes. Original and modified ZnO samples were characterized by Raman, photoluminescence (PL) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. This study confirms that change in defect structure of ZnO crystal lattice introduced by mechanical activation greatly affects the optical properties of this material.

AB - In this paper we illustrate the change of optical properties of mechanically activated wurtzite ZnO powder and laser synthesized anatase TiO2 nanopowder due to the nonstoichiometry caused by mechanical activation and/or laser irradiation in vacuum. Both of the investigated materials are widely used in optoelectronics and the examination of their optical properties under different preparation and environmental conditions is of great practical interest.
