AB - In this work single phase hexagonal YMnO3 powders were prepared starting from Y(CH3COO)(3)center dot xH(2)O, Mn(CH3COO)(2)center dot 4H(2)O, KMnO4 and KOH using methods of conventional (280 degrees C for 6 h) or microwave assisted hydrothermal synthesis (200 degrees C for 2 h) followed by calcination at 1200 degrees C for 2 h. According to FESEM analysis the calcined powders consisted of submicronic YMnO3 particles, which were uniform in shape and size. Ceramic samples were obtained by sintering the as-synthesized powders at 1400 degrees C for 2 h. XRD analysis confirmed the presence of the single phase hexagonal YMnO3. SEM analysis showed a dense and homogeneous microstructure with typical inter- and intra-grain cracks. Magnetic measurements indicated ferrimagnetic properties that were explained by non-stoichiometry of the obtained compound and an excess of manganese that was confirmed by ICP analysis.

AB - Structural, electrical and magnetic properties of nickel manganite ceramics obtained by sintering fine powders prepared by a complex polymerization method are given in this work. The phase composition of the synthesized material was examined by x-ray powder diffraction (XRPD). Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was used to analyze the obtained powder morphology. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to analyze the microstructure of sintered ceramics. The activation energy of conduction E-a and the coefficient of temperature sensitivity B-25/100 were calculated from direct current (DC) resistivity measurements. The magnetization dependence of temperature M(T) and alternating current (AC) susceptibility data obtained from SQUID measurements clearly demonstrate that quadruple magnetic phase transitions can be readily detected at T-M1 similar to 115 K, T-M2 similar to 105 K, T-M3 similar to 38 K and T-M4 similar to 7 K. These findings suggest a novel magnetic transition for nickel manganite at low temperature T-M4.

AB - In this work, pure and Ca2+ and Sr2+ doped LaMnO3 powders were obtained using polymerisable complex method from citrate precursors. La2O3, Mn(NO3)(2) and citric acid were used for citrate formation, and ethylene glycol was later added as polymerisation agent. For the preparation of doped samples, solutions of Ca(CH3COO)(2) and Sr(NO3)(2) were used. Calcination was performed at 800 degrees C for 6 h in oxygen atmosphere. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that single phase LaMnO3, La0.7Ca0.3MnO3, La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 and La0.7Ca0.15Sr0.15MnO3 powders were obtained. Morphology of prepared samples was analysed using SEM analysis. Field cooled and zero field cooled magnetisations versus temperature and hysteresis loops of powders and sintered samples were analysed. Curie temperatures were in the range from 170 to 370 K, depending on composition. Measured magnetisations even reached 85 emu g(-1). The influence of dopants on magnetisation, Curie temperature and hysteresis loops were quantified and discussed.
