AB - Fire blight disease, caused by plant pathogenic bacteriaErwinia amylovorarepresents a global threat for pome fruit industry, affecting yield and causing serious economic damage. During six year period (2011-2016), a total of 45 isolates typical forE. amylovorawere isolated from four different host plants (apple, pear, quince and medlar) in 21 localities within four Serbian regions (Southeast, Central, West, and North). Isolates were primarily identified using biochemical and serological tests, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with species-specific primer pair (A/B) and their pathogenicity. Polyclonal antibodies used in DAS ELISA and IF were found to be specific and sensitive enough for rapidE. amylovoradetection. In virulence test performed on immature pear fruitlets, higher variability (CV) was found between regions than among hosts from which isolates originated. Slighter virulence of isolates originated from North region of Serbia (Vojvodina) was found in comparison to the isolates from Central Serbia, which were the most variable. Principal components analysis (PCA) segregated quince as a host among the most prevalent isolates in group of highly virulent, but failed to identify difference related to geographic origin of Serbian isolates. The same results enabled multivariate statistical analysis. Different DNA fingerprinting techniques such as repetitive element sequence based PCR (rep-) with BOX, ERIC, REP, GTG(5)and SERE primers, then Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) with M13-PCR primer revealed genetic homogeneity among all SerbianE. amylovoraisolates. ERIC, SERE and M13 primers generated the most complex and visually perceptible patters. Restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis (RFLP) ofgyrAandrecAgenes, digested with three restriction endonucleasesBstUI,BgIII andBsmI andrpoSgene digested withBstUI gave the unuque, characteristic patterns for all Serbian isolates.

AB - Cerium-based conversion coatings have emerged as promising green alternatives to the harmful chromium-based ones, but the mechanism of corrosive protection still remains a subject of academic and industrial research. This study focuses at small scale phenomena of corrosion inhibition imparted by ceria (CeO2) to AA7075. Ceria nanoparticles were deposited from diluted and concentrated CeO2 sols by immersion. A multi-analytical approach, combining Atomic Force microscopy (AFM), Scanning Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy, Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy, open circuit potential and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was employed. Deposition of ceria films led to deactivation of cathodic sites, i.e. decreased Volta potential difference, resulting in increased corrosion inhibition. In situ AFM real-time monitoring revealed that during exposure to NaCl electrolyte, the changes in size of deposited ceria aggregates occurred: nanoparticles disintegrated/desorbed and re-deposited at the coating surface. The process was found to be dynamic in nature. Small particles size and inherent reactivity are believed to accelerate this phenomenon. Due to the greater CeO2 reservoir, this phenomenon was more pronounced with a thicker film, imparting longer term protection.

AB - Cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles (CONPs) are interesting biomaterials with various applications in biomedicine, cosmetics and the pharmaceutical industry, but with limited practical application because of their low stability in aqueous media. The aim of this study was to obtain CONPs with increased stability by coating the particles. Microbial exopolysaccharides (levan, pullulan) and glucose were used to prepare CONPs under different synthesis conditions. Coating was attempted by adding the carbohydrates during (direct coating) or after (subsequent coating) the synthesis of CONPs. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by X-Ray diffraction analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The suspension stability of the uncoated and coated CONPs in aqueous media was evaluated by measuring the hydrodynamic size, zeta potential and turbidity. The FT-IR spectra revealed the differences between coated CONPs and showed the success of subsequent coating with carbohydrates. Coating with carbohydrates improved the stability the CONP suspension by decreasing the size of aggregated particles. The suspensions of levan- and glucose-coated CONPs had the best stability. In this study, CONPs were prepared using non-toxic materials, which were completely environmentally friendly. The obtained results open new horizons for CONP synthesis, improving their biological applications.

AB - In this article the solid state reaction of BaTiO3 formation from a mechanically activated BaCO3-TiO2 system has been investigated. An equimolar mixture of BaCO3 and TiO2 powders was activated in a planetary ball mill in a continual regime for 0, 30 and 90 min, pressed and thermally treated up to 1200 degrees C. The eject of the milling and firing regime on the phase formation was investigated by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Deconvolution of the experimental DTA curve corresponding to the BaTiO3 synthesis process has been performed. The influence of the activation time on the change of characteristic temperature for each elementary step in the complete solid-state reaction of BaTiO3 formation, was analyzed. These results were correlated with the ones obtained by SEM characterization and by XRD analysis.

AB - Barium titanate (BaTiO3) has been of practical interest for more than 60 years because of its attractive properties.
BaTiO3 can be prepared using different methods, which can have signifi cant infl uence on the structure and
properties of barium titanate ceramics.
In this paper powder of BaTiO3 powders were prepared by two methods. The fi rst was synthesis from polymeric
precursors through Pechini process which was carried out as a three-stage process from an oganometallic
complex, producing cubic BaTiO3 powders with 40–80 nm primary particles. The second was a mechanochemical
synthesis from powder mixture of BaO and TiO2, producing cubic BaTiO3 but with primary particles
200–250 nm. In both cases BaTiO3 ceramics were produced by sintering for 2h at 1300°C without a pre-calcination
step. The phases formed and the crystal structure of BaTiO3 prepared by both methods was carried
out by XRD analysis. The morphology and microstructure of obtained powders and sintered samples were
examined by SEM.

AB - The dielectric permittivity and dissipation factor of La-doped and undoped BaTiO3 were investigated as a function of frequency and temperature. The impedance response was used to study the electrical properties of La-doped BaTiO3 over the temperature range from room temperature (RT) to 350 degrees C. La-doped and undoped BaTiO3, obtained by a modified Pechini method, were sintered in air at 1300 degrees C for 2 and 16 hours. The impedance spectra were analyzed in terms of equivalent circuits involving resistors, capacitors and constant phase elements (CPE). The most suitable electrical circuit for the interpretation of experimental results is found to be the equivalent circuit consisting of resistors and CPE elements which replace the capacitor elements. The contribution of grain boundary resistance to the total resistance of a system is remarkable at low temperature. Dielectric permittivity of doped BaTiO3 was in the range of 8000 to 12000 at 1 kHz and the dissipation factor was less than 1%.

Dielectric permittivity of doped BaTiO3 was in the range of 8000 to 12000 at 1 kHz and the dissipation factor was less than 1%.",

AB - Ceramic materials with a perovskite related structures such as non-doped and doped barium titanate ceramics are attracting much interest for their application as capacitor dielectrics, resistors, thermal sensors, etc. Since mechanical activation can be used in order to modify properties of these materials, in this study microstructure evolution and electric properties of mechanically activated BaTiO3 have been analyzed. The sintering process of high purity non-doped mechanically activated BaTiO3 was monitored using a sensitive dilatometer with a heating rate of 10 degrees C/min. Investigation of the microstructure evolution of mechanically activated BaTiO3 was performed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and digital pattern recognition (DPR) methods. A dielectric study of the paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition in the barium titanate ceramics was performed by recording the temperature dependence of dielectric permittivity.

AB - In this paper the influence of tribophysical activation on non-isothermal sintering of barium titanate has been investigated. BaTiO3 Powders were tribophysically activated in a planetary ball mill for 0, 60 and 120 min., pressed and non-isothermally sintered up to 1380 degrees C. Dilatometric analysis was performed in air in the temperature range from room temperature to 1380 degrees C with heating rates of 10, 20 and 30 degrees C/min. The samples were analyzed by the X-ray powder diffraction method. Investigation of the morphology of microstructure constituents was performed using the scanning electron microsocopy method. With the purpose of optimizing technological parameters the results obtained by microstructure analysis were correlated with the results of quantitative dilatometric analysis.

AB - The sintering behavior of BaTiO3 with LiF showed that it was possible to sinter barium titanate at temperatures below 1000 degrees C. Different combinations of the sintering powders were prepared by adding 1 to 5 w% LiF and sintering at the temperature of 950 degrees C for 20 hours. The grain growth of LiF fluxed BaTiO3 was studied, and electron microscopy was used to investigate and characterize the microstructure of the samples. The dielectric constant and dielectric losses were determined. It was shown that the composition of the liquid phase formed during this process had a prominent influence on the grain growth and on the formation of BaTiO3 with better dielectric properties.
